American style kitchen – how to arrange one?

We all remember beautiful large kitchens, which are the centre of household life, in many American films and series. Once unattainable, today more and more popular in Europe and Poland, the American style is becoming more and more common thanks to the high availability of kitchen equipment and materials.

American style kitchen – what is it?

American kitchen is a lively kitchen! In the 1960s, it was the Americans who saw nothing wrong with entertaining guests in the kitchen or spending free time in it – this contributed to the fact that the American kitchen open to the living room became extremely popular.

The American style is a large, but spacious space in warm, cream colours of the fronts. When it comes to the floor, it is worth betting on black and white chessboards or wood. However, a large space should be cosy, mainly thanks to accessories, which should be a lot, in different colours, they do not have to “fit” the interior as a standard. Any boxes, fruits, plants, baskets, soft pillows or equipment placed on the counter – splendour, which seems to be the exact opposite of the recently fashionable minimalist style, is designed to show the family character. Life goes on in the American kitchen, and it’s meant to be seen!

The kitchen should be open to the living room or connected to the dining room. Often in the middle there is a large kitchen island, which serves as a table, desk, worktop and meeting place. A pantry is often adjacent to the kitchen – Americans love to stock up, and shopping is often a long journey. Accordingly, the two-door refrigerator is also the most common, and multi-burner home cookers are replacing hobs.

An American kitchen should have large windows, natural light and a view of the garden – if your kitchen has no windows or has little natural light, it is worth investing in good, natural-looking artificial lighting. As for the windows, they can be decorated with curtains, and in the corner under the window you can meet the so-called “breakfast corner”, a small cosy corner often consisting of two chairs and a table where you can sit down and eat a quick breakfast or drink your coffee.
